Just Another Day In Paradise

Heavy rain, wind and storms have been the usual here on Kauai for days.   It was our luck we chose to live on the arid south side.  We have seen some rain here in Kalaheo, but nothing like the storms causing road closures and evacuations in the north.  All of Kauai is just 552 square miles, a really small place for so many weather patterns going on at once.  One thing we found heading west usually will get us out of the rain and travelling from the sunshine on the west toward the rain in the east at just about any time in the afternoon you’ll see rainbows. Today we chased them.

We had wonderful take out plate lunches from the Koloa Fish Market, lau lau,(savory pork and fish wrapped in leaves, salmon lomi lomi, (fresh tomato salad with salmon) ahi (tuna) with caper butter, ahi poke and the usual rice, macaroni salad and greens, all for under $20.00.  The food was delicious and due to the scattered showers we ate in the car overlooking the crashing waves north of Poipu.

After lunch we visited the Kukuiula Small Boat Harbor and found it to be an excellent viewing area for the spouting horn.  This area also provided covered picnic tables and restrooms, too bad we didn’t know about it before we ate lunch.

Then we headed to the west out toward our favorite salt pond for more exploration.  Today we ventured further on the red dirt roads that surround the air field near the park.

We stopped at every opportunity to take in breathtaking rainbows.

The photos of the rainbows are lovely. From what I read, gather you’re on one of the Hawaiian Islands?
